On the 18th September Euractiv.fr, a webportal providing information on the EU and its policies, has publishes an article which presents the minute of the conference "Women for Europe". The website describes the three main proposals made by women : gender equality, promotion of scientific careers and an engagement on an alternative vision of sustainable developpment.

The conference "Women for Europe" was a succes. All the speakers were present and the debates have benne very interesting. In order to keep the momentuum a minute of the conference was drafted and sent to all the participants. Several proposals mentioned during the conference have been forwarded to the persons in charge of gender equality at the European Commission and the French Government.

Femme Actuelle turns to Europe

 The June issue of Femme Actuelle is dedicated to Europe - a way of reminding women that France is taking over the Presidency of the European Union for six months as from July 1st. This is an opportunity to review what Europe has changed in women's daily lives - and not always in a negative manner. On page 9 Pascale Joannin, Director General of the Robert Schuman Foundation explains female Euro-scepticism in France. Further on a true-false quiz, about Europe undertaken with the help of the Robert Schuman Foundation reviews what Europe has provided to women's daily lives.

 This is the aim of the project "Women for Europe", declares Florence Richard, chairwoman of the "Femmes, Débat et Société" association, in an interview for the "Marie Claire" magazine. In the July number of the magazine, she explains to the readers the benefits of Europe in the women's daily life and the activities engaged in order to mobilise women to European construction.

 As part of the debate on constitutional reform Marie-Jo ZIMMERMANN ( Moselle, UMP), chair of the delegation of women's rights at the National Assembly has just pushed an amendment through Parliament enabling progress in terms of men and women's equality in the professional and social spheres – against the advice of the Government.

As part of the French presidency of the European Union that will start on 1st July, the Robert Schuman Foundation and the association "Femmes, Débat et Société" is organising an international conference "Women for Europe" at the Sciences Po on Wednesday 2nd July from 9am to 6:30pm. The event is taking place under the high patronage of the President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy with the support of the European Commission and the French Presidency.

Version Femina : a round of Europe in 11 questions

On the occasion of Europe Day, Version Femina the supplement to the Journal de Dimanche together with the Robert Schuman Foundation published a double spread on 4th May on what Europe brings to the daily lives of women. In the form of a false/true questionnaire 11 questions addressed subjects that are the focus of womens' concerns today: travelling in Europe, the European Health Insurance Card, air travellers' rights, the cost of mobile phone calls in Europe, GMO's and toxic products in cigarettes.
